Drug Uses
Levothroid is used as replacement or supplemental therapy in patients with hypothyroidism and for prevention of euthyroid goiters.
How Taken
Use Levothroid as directed by your doctor. Take Levothroid with a meal. It is recommended to drink extra fluids while you are taking Levothroid. Take Levothroid regularly to receive the most benefit from it. Taking Levothroid at the same times each day will help you remember to take it.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Storage
Keep the product away heat, moisture and light. The temperature should be between 59–86F (15–30 C). Make sure children cannot reach it.
More Information
You may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment or you may not be able to take this drug at all if you have kidney or liver infection or if you have gastrointestinal problems. Levothroid interact with the following products– phenytoin (Dilantin); tamoxifen (Nolvadex); tolbutamide (Orinase); torsemide (Demadex); fluvastatin (Lescol); a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin), heparin, ardeparin (Normiflo), dalteparin (Fragmin), danaparoid (Orgaran), enoxaparin (Lovenox), or tinzaparin (Innohep); (Activase), anistreplase (Eminase), dipyridamole (Persantine), streptokinase (Kabikinase, Streptase), ticlopidine (Ticlid), and urokinase (Abbokinase). Patients taking the above mentioned drugs should consult a doctor concerning the dosage and possibility of Levothroid usage.
Warnings/Precautions
Levothroid may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. These effects may worsen if Levothroid is taken with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Levothroid Tablets with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you take Levothroid Tablets. Proper dental care is important while you are taking Levothroid Tablets. Brush and floss your teeth and visit the dentist regularly. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Levothroid should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects
Among the possible negative side effects are- severe neutropenia (low white blood cells), thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), hemorrhage (gastrointestinal hemorrhage and cerebral hemorrhage), headache, indigestion, flushing.
